- Get safe. If water is near outlets, cords or appliances, stay out of it. Switch power off at the panel only if you can reach it without standing in water.
- Stop the water. Close the main water shutoff, or the valve for the appliance that's leaking.

- Take photos and video of every wet room and item before anything is moved or thrown out.
- Protect belongings. Lift furniture onto blocks or foil, take rugs up, move electronics and papers somewhere dry.
